This was the lovely's birthday weekend and having been to Baltimore the day before I did not want to travel down there again for top notch Italian so I looked for someplace a little closer to NE Maryland and Yelped upon this fine place. It worked out well because we coupled it with a tasting at the Chaddsford Winery and picked up a bottle for dinner as this is a BYOB. Let's get the lone negative out of the way...we were seated in the back dining area, and it is rather spartan but the worst part was depending on were you are seated you can see the pantry and other BOH activities...no one wants to watch or hear the staff do BOH jobs. This could be remedied with a curtain or something. Also the room feels disconnected from the rest of the dining area. NOW in some ways that is a plus...it is much quieter back there if there are only a few couples...but it can be noisy if a group is seated. But you are gonna have that at most places. But they really need to dress up the room and adjust the sight lines into the BOH area. ... Ok we got the bad stuff out of the way...and if that is the only bad stuff you are doing pretty damn good. We were greeted and sat immediately. With staff filling our water, prepping our BOYB wine and delivering our bread and oil. Then we waited...well it wasn't real long...but someone forgot to tell our waiter he had a table in the back. At the time, and through most of our meal we were the only couple back there. But he was quite apologetic and provided stellar service. I did not catch his name, but he had a potent Lithuanian accent. He was a real pro and not stuffy like some can be in a better place. Now for the food...in two words...."Chair Food". Yea our meal was something you would want before getting strapped in the electric chair it was OMG good. We started with the Caprese Salad...fabulous! All the flavors blended together perfectly...the fresh and I am assuming house made mozzarella, the prosciutto, and since it was March the tomatoes were not local...I am sure in July and August when local tomatoes are at their peak this dish would be OUTSTANDING...but it was still fab in March. My lovely ordered the Seafood Agnolotti (Lobster and Crab Meat Stuffed Pasta Sautéed with Sweet Peas and Truffle Brandy Cream Sauce)....she said it was divine and the few bites she offered me...I would have to agree. I ordered the Chicken Saltimbocca (Chicken Breast Rolled with Mozzarella and Prosciutto di Parma, Finished with a Marsala Wine Demi Glaze Sauce.)...after the first bite I had a new favorite Italian meal. Just fantastic! As a side I ordered Gatto Napoletano (Savory Potato Cake Layered with Sopressata, Mozzarella, and Ricotta Cheese.)....another stunning addition to this meal. This entire meal was amazing....then...we ordered dessert. Sure we went the traditonal route...I with the cannoli and the lovely with the tiramisu. Both were the perfect endings to an amazing meal. Then... came 2 complementary shots of Lemoncello to finish off the meal with panache. What a great meal...great service...our meal was $72 before tip, more than reasonable for the quality of food and service.

Consistently good. Have been here many times and have yet to walk away disappointed. Service is fantastic. Love bringing my favorite wine, my favorite girl and having a great evening of food and conversation. Favorite dishes are Spezzatino, Short ribs and Bronzino preluded by the Caprese salad. One downside to some is that's it's loud. I say it's vibrant . Enjoy

Came here while we were staying overnight at the Brandywine River Hotel, a few big pros for this restaurant: -A two minute walk from the hotel -BYOB! (perfect after wine tasting) -Delicious Lobster ravioli -Friendly, quick service -Nice ambience -Good price I would recommend coming here when you are in the area and I preferred this place to Brandywine Prime which is right next door.

First time here and it was incredible! Showed up with no reservation on a Saturday (which was a gamble). We were seated in 5 minutes. We started with the eggplant appetizer. My mom had the Salmon and I had the veal and crab. We shared a side of broccoli. Every bite was delicious and I cannot wait to go back! Our waiter was a attentive and helpful and although the place was packed he never rushed us!

Couple things could make this restaurant a better experience. Once you order the food comes out really fast, like maybe a minute between salad and main course. Next time I would hold off ordering entree until finished with the first course. Asked for a chiller which never came. The good parts are the food and service. People are friendly and we were seated very close to the reservation time, which was nice because they were packed and often you can wait. The sauteed clams were very good, but the menu says they come with Long Hots, but actually there are very small slices or Long Hots in the broth. SInce I like spicy I would prefer larger pieces of the pepper. Eggplant Napolean was as good as italian places downtown. The borado was fresh and flaky and came with an ample amount of well done risotto. The veal chop parmigana is HUGE. I mean it covers the entire plate and is large enough for two. The veal was ok, but not real tender. House made Tiramisu was creamy , but way too much sugar for my taste. Overall if the pace of the meal was better, had the chiller arrived and the veal being and little better, this would easily be 4 stars. Parking is shared with Brandywine Prime and they take most plastic.

I have nothing but good things to say about Antica. Atmosphere was excellent with a friendly helpful staff. The menu was just the right size. It didn't overwhelm you with to much to choose from, but offered a great blend of options to cover whatever your in the mood for. (Beef, chicken, fish, etc) And to top it off, the prices were very reasonable. I suggest you put this on your list of places to go for a great dining experience.

Good spot. Well worth checking out. Waited for a table for a good bit on a busy Saturday night, but staff was awesome and made up for the wait. And you can always cruise to the bar at Brandywine Prime after.

We've visited Antica 4 times now and every time has been a home run. The service was friendly and knowledgeable - answering all our questions and providing some excellent suggestions. For the appetizers - all the portions we've had were generous helpings. The Clams were really an entree sized portion; the Eggplant Nepolean was a perfect combination of eggplant, cheeses and sauce - without being soggy or mushy. The Arugula Salad and antipasto were also great. We shared the Antipasto - it was a perfect size for sharing for 2 and had great quality and diversity of cheese, salamis and olives/peppers. Entree-wise, we've ordered the Veal Chop, Seafood Agnalotti, Veal Parmasean and Branzion - All were really excellently prepared with wonderful ingredients that were fresh and high quality. The presentations were also well-done - not overplayed. We're not big dessert eaters - especially after such a wonderful meal. Our only recommendation is to try to do something to damper the noise level a little bit - the restaurant - when full is really loud and noisy - it can be difficult to have a conversation without almost yelling. all in all - we love it and will keep introducing it to our friends and go back!

Great food, large portions! We had an hour delay being seated but the Manager graciously gave us some appetizers on the house which was a great way to salvage the situation!

We had our engagement party here on a Saturday for lunch. It was excellent! The food, staff and atmosphere were all perfect. This place is a great value and they do an excellent job. We will be back for more showers & parties - they do not skimp on anything here. It was GREAT!

Antica is Italian food at its best. BYOB, affordable pricing, friendly service, and divine taste. From the ample short ribs to bucatini carbonara to veal with crab to the little pillows of gnocchi, everything is wonderful. The arancini appetizer has a surprising braised beef interior which is delicious and quite filling. Well worth a visit and you will surely opt to return again soon after.

Six of us stopped by here on a busy Friday evening after we discovered that our original restaurant choice was closed for the evening. The placed was packed but the hostess could not have been more gracious and asked us to wait a few minutes to see if there was something that she could do for us. Then, miraculously, we saw some of the staff pulling tables together and setting them. We were seated in no more than ten minutes! Then, we experienced the only down-side to the whole evening. The room was so loud that some of us could not hear what our server was saying at one end of the table. Because we felt fortunate that we had even secured a table, the noise was not an issue for us so we sat back and enjoyed the rest of our stay. Our waitress was delightful, personable yet professional and most efficient. Each of us found our menu choices to be innovative, flavorful, and nicely presented. The young one with us ordered chicken fingers (what else?!) from the children's menu and quickly devoured them. The Caesar's salad was chock full of fresh ingredients. Tender and delicious veal pizzalola was not overly saucy and could not have been better. Pork tagliatelle was wonderful and so plentiful that almost half of it was enjoyed at home the next day, though the pork was on the chewy side the flavor made up for it. We surely will return here whenever we plan to be in the area

Amazing meal! Open for only a week we thought we would give it a try and we certainly weren't disappointed. The wait staff was knowledgeable and extremely friendly. We ordered the Clams and the Arancini Rice balls as appetizers, and the Bronzino and Pork Tagliatelle for our main course. Each dish was better than the next. You could tell the chef cooks with love? Definitely can't wait to come back!

The meal and service were excellent. I thought it was a bit quieter with a slightly more refined inner atmosphere compared to Il Granaio. Our waiter was Darren who was very attentive and friendly. I would rate this as one of the best Italian meals that I have had in the Delaware County area. I wish the staff and owner great success in their new venture. T and B C

I've eaten here eaten here every week or two since Antica opened and tried just about every item on the menu. Everything has been delicious and some things (like the bucatini and short rib) are truly wonderful. Service is both friendly and professional. It's a BYOB, so remember to bring a favorite bottle or two.

Outstanding food and service! This is a new favorite! We went on a Sunday afternoon and from the moment we walked in the door, we felt like family. The wait staff was attentive and helpful and the food was perfectly prepared. There were 7 of us and we all had something different. No one was disappointed! The pasta is homemade, the ingredients are fresh and seasonings perfect! We splurged on dessert and again were not disappointed - the creme brulee was not too sweet and the chocolate-orange bread pudding and tiramisu were heavenly.

was here last night 2/10/15 with a party of 7 for a birthday celebration, and we could not have been more impressed. Everyone said their food was very good, we brought our own cake and they cut and served it for us. 1 person in our party had to leave early and they expedited his food so he could make a previous engagement.

Really enjoyed this restaurant! The service was great and they made us feel right at home! I had the escarole soup first, which was really tasty. The escarole still had a little crunch to it and the broth was delicious. For my entree I had the chicken saltimbocca and my husband was in the mood for good old chicken parm. Both we're excellent and of course we brought home enough leftovers to make another meal! Had a very enjoyable evening at Antica and will definitely be back. The only downside is the lack of parking. Antica is next door to Brandywine Prime and with patrons of two great restaurants fighting for spots, the parking is hard to find. On a Friday night, we had to stalk people as the were leaving.

My boyfriend and I discovered this amazing place after frequently dining at their sister restaurant Il Granaio. Antica is just as good. The service was impeccable. the bruschetta is too die for. The sweetness from the honey balances the tartness from the tomatoes. A PERFECT bite. My boyfriend gets his usual chicken parm, and he says it is the best he ever had. Both antica and il Granaio are better than many other Italian places i have been to in Philly.

My boyfriend and I ate here on our way to Longwood Gardens. We came across Antica on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The service was great and everything was delicious. We started with the mussels in red as an appetizer. I had the branzino which was filleted table side by our very professional and pleasant waiter (I forget his name but he had an italian accent). My boyfriend had the seafood stuffed pasta with crabmeat and lobster in a truffle sauce. We obviously had left overs and ate the rest the next day. My only complaint is where we sat - in the small room off the main dining room next to the emergency exit door. Wasn't the ideal location as we made a very early resrvation (5PM), but the restaurant did seem to get very busy by the time we left. If I lived in the area I would definitely be a regular. I will try to return again on my trips out to Longwood Gardens.

Must confess I came in a bit suspicious as to whether a Chadd's Ford 4.5-star restaurant would live up to a NYC 4.5 - and I'm happy to say it does! Tl;dr: great food, reasonable prices and exceptional service. Our party of three ordered the caprese and arugula salad to start and share, which were both fresh and well seasoned. The bottle of white we brought needed to chill, so our super attentive and thoughtful waiter Julian brought over a bigger ice bucket to help it chill faster. We decided on the seafood agnolotti, shrimp fradiavolo and pulpo contadino (octopus) as entrees with Julian's help. All three were delicious, especially the agnolotti (the lobster and crabmeat stuffing was substantive and not shredded into an indiscernible pulp as at other places- and what could go wrong with a truffle brandy cream sauce??) and pulpo (the octopus was tender but still had that great slightly charred, smoky flavor). We were unfortunately too stuffed for dessert but finished off with a lovely little taste of limoncello on the house. We sat a while longer at the end of the meal and never felt rushed. Haven't left feeling this pleased with every aspect of a meal in quite a while! (Here's looking at you, NY Restaurant Week..) Looking forward to our next visit while in town.

Appetizers were excellent...service was excellent....dessert was excellent.....Swordfish Special was very thin and grilled too long so it was pretty dry.....overall a very good experience. We will return.

Amazingly delicious pasta dishes. We had the gnocchi, and the spezzatino--both were rich, delicious, and comprised of multiple layers of flavor and complexity. Chocolate bread pudding was one of the best chocolate desserts I have ever had. A+!!!

Into the plethora of 4 and 5 star reviews, I'm tossing in a "2". And for good reason, I think. I've now been to Antica at least a half-dozen times in a year, and each time I'm less impressed. First there was time I showed up with my octogenarian parents with a 7pm reservation, and we had to wait a half hour to be seated. Keep in mind this restaurant has NO waiting area. Yes, I know they can't help it if patrons want to linger, but they should by now have realized they can't turn over tables every hour. Then there was the time I came with my wife and daughter. Despite our reservation for 3, we were seated at a table for 2 near the door. We asked to be moved away from the door, since it was quite cold and we were very crowded. We got shunted to the back of the restaurant, received indifferent service (at best), and after we were served, definitely got "the bum's rush" as they tried to get us out. Now, our res was for 9pm, so I get they wanted to get out of there, but then don't take reservations for that late if that's going to be the attitude. Recently, I tried to add my son onto a reservation. Again, I get that this is a hassle, but they made zero effort to accommodate us, nor did they offer us another time, or even another evening. What made this worse was they had the reservation wrong to begin with. When I told them I would never have made the res for the time they had (we were going to be somewhere past that time), I got "that's the time we had". No apology, nothing. Finally, I tried to make a res for Valentines Day eight days before. The guy taking the res laughed (yes, laughed!) and said "We've been sold out for Valentine's Day for weeks." No "sorry". No "how about Friday night?". Just laughter. I need this? The food here is usually quite good, but let's face it... this is Chadds Ford, not Manhattan, or even Philly. I really don't need the attitude... my money spends quite nicely elsewhere. I doubt I'll go back. There are just too many things that are turning me off. Dining out is about the entire experience, and the good food isn't rescuing the restaurant from the attitude of the people serving. For the money, I can do better, thank you very much.

Took my girlfriend here before a night at long wood gardens, and we loved it. The antipasto was excellent, with the cheese, meats and long hots. The olives were fresh. Our entrees, bucatini carbonara and the crab lobster agnolotti were very good. We liked that you could get a half portion to make room for an a la carte side. The best part was the byob. It allowed us to get a nicer dish without worrying about overpriced drinks. We will be back soon with friends

We had a 7:00 reservation on Saturday, and were seated right away. The food was very good, but service didn't measure up with the prior reviews. The first thing we noticed was how loud the dining room was when we were seated. The waiter opened our wine, but never put it on ice. Once our guests arrived (appox 7:10), it seemed like an eternity before he came back to take the order. It was a similar wait until we were finally served. I actually saw him come out of the kitchen to scan the room. When he saw us sitting with nothing in front of us, it must have hit him that we may be hungry. After desert, the bill came, and we were out around 9:30. Since we enjoyed the food, we will have to try again to see if we caught our waiter on an off day.

This is the best Italian byob I've ever been to! I love this place so much and everything on the menu is impeccable. The bruschetta is absolutely out of this world, we also had clams which were so delicious. My favorite entree is the spinach fettuccine which comes with toasted pine nuts and generous slices of cheese of top. The small size is at least 2 cups of pasta and I always have some to bring home. The shrimp fradiavolo comes in a mildly spicy sauce and the shrimp are cooked to perfection. Their homemade creme brulee is the perfect way to end an amazing meal here. They also have complimentary limoncello which is not too tart and balances the lemon and alcohol flavors really well. I love this restaurant and it is very reasonably priced for how good the food is. Bring friends, bring a date, bring a good bottle of wine.... Antica will not disappoint

Stopped in after church for a leisurely Sunday lunch. Place was delightfully quiet with a very attentive waiter we recognized from IL GRANAINO their sister restaurant in Glen Mills. He was charming again. Their cream tomato basil soup was deliciously creamy & fresh! TOP NOTCH!:). My hubs wanted wine with his entree so walked across parking lot to Brandywine Prime who graciously sold him a bottle & our 'BYOB' dilemma was solved!! FIVE STARS for fresh pasta with our entrees. Our little secret will soon be famous as this delightful modern restaurant serving well crafted creative & classic Italian cuisine continues getting high marks!

Myself and seven other bridesmaids hosted a bridal shower for my best friend at Antica last week. I can't say enough about how wonderful the staff was. There was never an empty glass of water. They helped us carry decorations, wine, etc into the restaurant and even helped us set up by filling vases with water. They were so accommodating and the food was great! I couldn't be happier with Antica and will definitely be hosting other events there!

Delicious food and wonderful service. The only downside is the difficulty in getting a reservation - but that's also how you know it's good!

We love this place! The bruschetta with whipped ricotta, honey, and sweet grilled cherry tomatoes is truly unique- it's refreshing and decadent at the same time. The octopus entree is incredibly light, tender, and delicious. The seafood agnolotti is essentially crab and lobster ravioli in a truffled brandy cream sauce. This is some addictive stuff. Can't go wrong with truffles and brandy and seafood. The complimentary Limoncello at the end of the meal is a nice touch. Bottom line: Reasonable prices and stellar food!

Our new favorite BYOB. Very good food, and wonderful staff. We had a small issue with our reservation at another restaurant, called these folks, and they were able to get us a table for 6 within 30 minutes. There was a little wait, so they advised us to go next door for a drink at the bar. Not only did they call us when the table was ready, but the young woman came over to the bar to make sure we got the message. And then we had a really great meal- good appetizers, and well executed entrees including sea bass, veal, chicken saltimbocca, and pasta bolognese. Definitely going back, soon. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

We had a business dinner at Antica at the end of October. The owner and the entire staff were exceptional! They worked with our group (about 35 people) to make sure we were happy. From a custom menu to room set-up, it met all of our expectations. Now for the food- everything was spot on! 35 people and NOT ONE person left unsatisfied- you know that is hard to do. We had appetizers, a 4 course meal, and of course we brought our own wine. Without question, when I am in the area again, I will be back to Antica for dinner. Thanks Joshua and team- fine dining, enjoyable atmosphere, and excellent food are what you do right. Keep it up!

I have visited 3 times. Every time was AWSOME. My wife and I love the food and the staff is always great. The deserts are as good as it gets. We eat out too often and this is the best deal in Chester county. Do call for a reservation. You will not be disappointed in any way!!

Yummilicious!!! We came here for the first time 2 weeks ago. We went back this weekend to try something else on the menu. So far we had house salad, Caesar salad, clams, calamari, snapper livognese, chicken parm, short ribs & beef bolognese. We'll be back soon for more yummy food!

The restaurant is tucked away and may not appear from the outside like it is a place to be, but don't let that stop you! The food is amazing. The dishes are a combination of traditional Italian with in-house made pasta and dishes that are creative and slightly daring. The octopus entree with white beans is out of this world - tender, flavorful and one of the best. Bring a great bottle of red wine and enjoy this restaurant.

Looks like the food is amazing. I write "looks" because my husband and I had a reservation for dinner but waited for over a half hour for it. Once seated our waiter brought us water and then complained about getting stuck with the smaller tables. We told him we knew what we wanted to order and he told us he had to serve another table, but would be back. We sat for another ten minutes and then walked out after we watched him hanging out with another table talking. Our reservation was at 8:15, and we left at 9:15. I am late with this review (this happened in spring). Hopefully things got better. It was super loud too. My husband and I were laughing because we literally had to yell to hear each other. Don't overbook yourselves!

The people who own Il Granaio have done it again, with another excellent Italian BYO restaurant. We tried to reserve at Il Granaio tonight. They were booked but told us about their new restaurant that just opened earlier this week, so we went there. Everything was outstanding, including the lobster/crab pasta and the veal chop parmigiana, which may be the best veal parm I've ever had. In addition, the service was excellent, starting with the welcoming smile of Jesus the busman, and the great waitstaff including Darren and Kathleen. By meal's end, we felt like part of the family, and what a delicious family. Highly recommended!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
